Nirmaan

Hasit Garg, the coordinator of Nirmaan, took some time out of his busy schedule to meet the Oasis English Press for an interview. Eagerly responding to the questions posed, he delved into details regarding the work Nirmaan does for the fest.

Hasit explained that Nirmaan is an organization that was started in 2005 by three BITSians to work for the welfare of the villages around Pilani. He added that the organisation has greatly evolved since their first school adoption project in 2006, and is presently working on multiple projects dealing with education and women empowerment issues.

According to Hasit, most of their pre-fest work involves ideation. He revealed that they undertake the decoration and organization of their stalls with minimal help from other clubs and departments. Funds are solicited with the involvement of the alumni and the faculty.

Hasit shared that this year, the organization would be continuing its popular ‘Food Challenge’ — a competition to eat as many Momos as possible in a limited amount of time. Their stall would also sell small handicrafts like diyas, earrings, and keychains produced by women from local villages under the project Swayam Shakti. Additionally, Nirmaan is putting up a painting stall and a game stall. The former is in collaboration with CISCO and would include activities like canvas painting, thumb painting, and many others. The latter would feature various games such as ‘pass the parcel’ and ‘musical chairs’, with exciting prizes for the winners.

When asked about his experience as a coordinator, Harsit remarked that managing a club with 200 volunteers can be quite challenging, but his passion and responsibility towards his beneficiaries make the work that much more valuable.

On a parting note, Hasit requested every BITSian to enjoy the fest and visit their stalls. Passionate about Nirmaan’s cause, he wholeheartedly believes that these events would help boost the morale of the volunteers.
