The BOSM English Press sat down with Sarvesh Khandelwal, the BOSM coordinator of Nirmaan, to talk about the events which they would be organising.
Nirmaan hosts a pre-BOSM event called Kadam, which is essentially a sports day for the four beneficiary schools in Pilani that Nirmaan works with. However, this time, only three schools are expected to participate. The event would consist of five sports–kabaddi, kho-kho, the 100m race, the shuttle race, and the water race, all of which are planned to be conducted in GymG.
Sarvesh mentioned that this time, the event is planned on a much bigger scale than the previous year’s, with close to 150 participants. Nirmaan is inclined to make the event slightly competitive. They have only requisitioned gold medals for the event, while ensuring that everyone gets at least a participation certificate.
In terms of the days leading up to BOSM, Sarvesh mentioned how it was difficult to find a date for Kadam since NSS had GymG booked for Junoon, but NSS happily cooperated with Nirmaan and they had the grounds booked for October 8, 2022. Meanwhile getting the required permissions from the Institute was a smooth sailing experience for Sarvesh. Apart from that, their work also includes inviting the beneficiary schools and ideating games suitable for secondary school students.
Being a coordinator has allowed Sarvesh to know his juniors better, and be more involved in every Nirmaan project. He called the job a challenge, ‘When you are a coord, you are solely responsible for the success and the failure of the event,’ Sarvesh concluded.
Note from the editor: The event stands postponed due to heavy rain on October 8, 2022.
