Photog

With Oasis around the corner, the coordinator for Photography Club (Photog) Kartik Dang, took time out to speak to Oasis English Press. Photog will be organising three events for Oasis. The first of the three events is a gallery in which the club will showcase eight panels based on a central theme. Apart from panels, Photog will also showcase ‘archives’ or pictures from earlier Oasis editions. They will also conduct a photography competition, ‘Pixel’, which will test the technical skills of the participants. The third event, ‘Capture Oasis’, will focus on the creative side of photography.

Speaking of the history of the club, Kartik said that Photog started in 2008 as a spin-off of the Department of Photography (DoPy), catering to those who were interested in photography and not just fest work. He added that they have gone from being a group of photography enthusiasts, to actively covering events and conducting competitions.

The club’s pre-fest work mainly consisted of preparing the panels. All aspects, including, but not limited to composition, creativity, and technical difficulty were analysed before the works were finally put up. Asked about how he handles the stress and the work, he said that shrewd division of responsibility is what made the club work smoothly.

When asked to share a funny anecdote or story that would capture the work that his club does, he said that there is a constant stream of funny events. He specifically referred to the day when the pictures for the panels are printed and club members go to Hisar, where Photog members print, edit, and upload photographs simultaneously in one van.

Of all the things that he would like the general BITSian to know about his club and photography in general, Kartik stressed that he would like to change the perception of people towards photography. He’d like to bring to light the work done by the photographer before the picture is clicked. Moreover, he requested those attending Oasis to visit the club’s panels and participate in ‘Capture Oasis’. Lastly, when asked if he had something to say to BITSians in general, Kartik had a succinct answer, ‘Lite lo’.
