Photography Club

Arjun, the BOSM coordinator of Photography Club, joined in for a quick chat in his room after a busy day. “My work has not even started because most of it is on the field”, said Arjun sharing his experience as a BOSM coordinator. However, contrary to his aforementioned words, Arjun pointed out that work for BOSM starts much earlier than the fest itself and nearly all of the work is handled by his juniors.

When asked about the preparatory work for BOSM Arjun elaborated, “It starts with the training of new recruits. We give them links to explore sports photography and the new recruits learn from the second year members while they capture images for the countdown posters.” The juniors also need to be trained to capture images from proper angles.

For the past few years, Photog has been organising workshops during BOSM and this edition is no different. Aman Alam , a Bangalore based photographer will be conducting a workshop and a hands-on session on ‘Smartphone Photography’ on 20th and 21st of September. “Everyone uses smartphones but most of us don’t know how to use it like a pro” said Arjun about the topic for the workshop.

A new addition to Photog’s usual work in this edition of BOSM will be the collaboration with Coding Club, Radioaktiv and CrAC to create a better reach for their photos by displaying them on the app and a few spots on campus. By creating a better reach for the photos, Arjun envisions to create a better environment for the fest which he considers is dull in comparison to the other BITSian fests. Selected photos are featured on social media everyday while soft copies of the rest are sent to all the participants of the event. When asked about the process of selecting the featured photos, he said, ”I decide them with other seniors of the club to showcase the highlights of the day.”

Though a large portion of Photog’s work is yet to be done, Arjun seems to be enjoying his work. As a closing note, he made a plea to the BITSian junta to come out and attend more events and increase the footfall at GymG.
