Photography Club

The BOSM English Press sat with Samriddhi Singh, the BOSM Coordinator for the Photography Club (Photog), to ask about their preparations leading up to the fest.

Samriddhi started by saying that Photog’s work is to provide photos of all the events that take place on campus during BOSM. She explained that this is done keeping in mind they can capture all team players and no one feels left out.

Talking about the club, she revealed that everyone in Photog is close-knit and understands their respective responsibilities. Talking about their work during the days of the fest, she said that their main task is posting daily highlights on their Instagram account and managing their live panel at the GymG. She added that they also create mementos and team posters using pre-BOSM coverage from SAC, GymG, and Rakesh Academy. Samriddhi mentioned that they would also be having a photo booth at GymG for the first time in collaboration with Canon for everyone to click photos which would be printed on a strip.

When asked about the main challenge they face during BOSM, she said that for the past two years it has been raining during the fest, which not only damages their equipment but also delays the matches. ‘It is a curse, and we are trying to avoid it by making rain dolls,’ she said. She highlighted capturing photos in dimly lit areas as another issue. She noted that Canon, being a sponsor, was lending them better cameras to solve this problem. Another issue she highlighted was being unable to cover every match due to them being scheduled simultaneously, however, they compensated for it with pre-BOSM coverage.

Elaborating on Canon as a sponsor, she mentioned that they would be holding a photography workshop for everyone to attend and would be lending their cameras for clicking pictures. She stated that using high-speed cameras and telephoto lenses are some technologies they would be incorporating this time for effective coverage.

She further revealed that they can manage and work around BST and last-minute scheduling by working closely with the Department of Controls, BOSM which shares the live schedule of all the events taking place.

To ensure creative vision remains intact while capturing photos, she said that the members have been adequately trained according to the sport they are assigned. She added that the members have been practising to take long exposure shots in athletics, and are also using a GoPro for underwater captures. She shared basketball, football, and volleyball as being some of her favourite sports to capture because of the energy and tension surrounding the games.

On a parting note, she hoped that the rain does not spoil the fest, and assured that she and her team would do their best to deliver excellent photos.
