The Public Policy Club discusses domestic and international public policy as well as geopolitical matters. The Oasis English Press sat down with Naman Sharma, the coordinator of the Public Policy Club, to learn more about the workings of the club and its role in the fest.
The club will be organising an event called RealPolitick during Oasis 2023. The event involves two rounds — a quiz and an auction round. The qualifying contestants from the quiz will bid on political figures from the past and the present, to create a winning portfolio.
Naman explained that while the event had been a huge success in the past, the club was working on improving it. He described that they have edited the list of politicians to be more relevant and fairer with regard to the points they have been assigned in the game. An issue that the club faced last year was the poor ratio of participants and political figures available for auction. Naman added that this had been rectified by adding more figures to the list so that a larger number of teams could participate in the event.
Talking about the preparations for the events, Naman shared that the club conducted two mock rounds to ensure that new members understood the procedure properly. He also praised StuCCA for its cooperativeness during the event pitching meet as well as in resolving any issues that they put forth, and added that the preparations so far were on schedule.
In addition to RealPolitick during Oasis and APOGEE, Public Policy Club also conducts group discussions and publishes articles on their social media platforms year-round. Naman spoke about how the club allowed him to express his passion for public policy and get together with like-minded individuals. He said that this helped him expand his horizons and grow in the field of debating.
On his experience as the coordinator, Naman said that the tightly packed schedule made the job challenging. He mentioned that the workload increased as the fest drew near, and the lack of a proper notice for tasks led to the process being ‘a little messy’. Concluding the interview, Naman requested the fest attendees to participate in RealPolitick.
