After a long day of planning and running about, Satyansh Rai, the President of the Student Union and the StuCCAn of Finances for Oasis 2018, managed to take some time out to talk about his role in the fest and the journey to Oasis.

As a core member of the planning committee of the fest, Satyansh plays an integral role in the organisation of the fest. His main responsibility is to allocate funds to the various clubs and departments working for the fest. When asked about new additions to Oasis, Satyansh mentioned the inclusion of two mini fests, the Food Fest—which features events like Chef Wars—and the Film Festival.

Satyansh said that the prof show line-up for this Oasis is the best he has seen. The news of Shankar Ehsaan Loy and Abhishek Upmanyu performing was received with great enthusiasm. Students are also excited for the English Prof Show featuring Guthrie Govan.

Although some believe that the SU has become too fest oriented, Satyansh feels that Oasis is an integral part of the identity of BITS. Pulling off a good fest will help increase the outreach of BITS Pilani through the outstation participants, and help the students create great memories. Managing the work related to Oasis and focusing on academics has been difficult for him – however, nothing can be done until work related to Oasis dies down.

On a parting note, Satyansh urged all BITSians to participate as much as they could in Oasis. ‘A lot of effort goes into making this fest a success. We hope to see the students support the events,’ he said. As he gets back to preparing for the fest, he mentions that getting a chance to enjoy the fest himself will be tough amidst all the work that needs to be done.
