Project Parivartan: An Update

The English Press Club talked to Lt. Col. A.K. Bhataiya, Chief of the Estate Management Unit to shed light on the progress of Project Parivartan. Work on the  Shankar Bhawan will be done by the end of this semester, and Vyas will be renovated next. Ashok, RP and other hostels will follow suit. Work on blocks 5 and 6 of Meera will be done this semester, after which blocks 4, 3, 2, and 1 will be renovated,with Block 9 completed at the end. Once work on all the hostels is finished, SR Bhawan will be dismantled.

Coming to the messes, he mentioned that SV mess will undergo renovation sometime after this semester. Currently the development team is finalising specifications and work will be finished by the end of the year. The new workshop has been inaugurated, and CNC classes for freshers are conducted there. The plan for the old workshop will be finalised once all shops are shifted to the new one.

An integral part of the hostel renovation is the installation of showers. As of now, fixtures for showers have been installed in the new hostels. A canal has been proposed from Delhi to the Jhunjhunu district, and will supply water to Pilani as well. If this is implemented, then showerheads will be installed in all hostels.

As for the Faculty Divisions, work on FD-I has been completed and FD-III renovation will be done in two phases. Phase 1 is expected to start in about two months, wherein one half of the building will be renovated, and phase 2 will start next year. After FD-III, FD-II and then the Central Block will be renovated. The staff quarters are being simultaneously renovated, with fifty-two quarters currently undergoing renovation.

As for the 2020 deadline for Project Parivartan, he predicted that the project would definitely go past 2020, and might be extended by two to three years at least.
