The Oasis English Press sat down with the Coordinator of the Public Policy Club (PPC), Shubham Gawali, to understand the club’s activities for Oasis ’24.
Shubham explained that their main activity was to conduct group discussions on recent geopolitical developments and current affairs. He elaborated that aspirants of CAT, UPSC, and other competitive examinations of the like would benefit greatly by joining the club. He mentioned that, unlike similar clubs on campus, their debates concluded with practical conclusions agreed by all viewpoints involved.
Shubham mentioned that this year, the club would be conducting its signature event, RealPolitik. He described it as a competition consisting of two rounds. The first round would feature a quiz open to all, from which the top 20 teams advance to the second round. He added that in this round, participants would be asked to build cabinets by bidding on politicians from all eras. He revealed that these would then be judged on various factors, including gender representation, political affiliations and volatility. He noted that RealPolitik had always been a big attraction, with close to 200 participants in APOGEE ‘24.
When asked about the preparations for RealPolitik, Shubham spoke about updating the list of politicians for the second round. This involved adjusting their volatility and relevance.
He further explained that they had been working on revising the rules. He recalled that during the previous APOGEE, rules for RealPolitik had to be changed since only one team had formed due to the strict guidelines.
Shubham expressed his excitement about conducting RealPolitik on Day 1 of the fest. He described the club as a group of small but passionate individuals, and despite the club being niche, he was confident that their event would be huge.
