The Punjab Cultural Association (PCA) is formed by those who love Punjab. It provides comfort and familiarity for those coming from the region. Oasis, a cultural fest, presents a great opportunity to showcase the glory of the prolific culture of Punjab to those unaware as well as to amass enthusiasts in celebration of it.
PCA works throughout the year to organise several programs, such as DJ nights, Gurupurab, and Lohri. For Oasis ’22, PCA will be organising the Flash Mob, an impromptu dance (mostly Bhangra) to Punjabi songs performed by the members, in collaboration with the Dance Club and an in-house DJ at the centre of the Rotunda. It will be an informal cultural dance night where no choreographed moves are necessary and anyone will be welcome to join in. The members have prepared a playlist of songs and practised some traditional dance forms. The Flash Mob has been a flagship event for the PCA for the past few years and has been reintroduced after an extended post-pandemic gap. Chirag Kakkar, the coordinator, said that the PCA is like a large family. He also mentioned that there have been fewer recruitments and less participation in the past two years because of the pandemic but they have regrouped into a bigger number to put on a good show this year. He has found his time as a member of the association and as well as a coordinator to be enjoyable and felt it has helped to shape him as a person. As per extrapolated data, Chirag added that he expected a well-sized audience and about 400–500 participants to join the Flash Mob. Chirag hoped it would unite a diverse audience in the joy of Punjabi dance and music.
