Aviral Sinha, juggling a jam-packed schedule, cordially agreed to be snagged for an interview when contacted by the Press Club.
“We have a team of 25 capable and hardworking people this year, which makes organizing that much more fun and much less challenging,” he said. Their events this Oasis are the Escape Room and the much-awaited Prom Night. In addition, they have also been assigned a poker event by the StuCCA, for which they will have to collaborate with an organisation that will be handling the entire event.
The club aims to make this Oasis very different from last year, with a larger focus on aesthetics and enjoyment. The theme of the Escape Room will be psychedelic this year, something that Aviral was proud of. “We will have radium and neon lighting, along with very interesting clues in the room. We’re relating it to the theme of Oasis.” The theme of the Prom will be winter, and the club has prepared for a larger turnout this year, expecting to accommodate twenty to thirty more couples. Aviral also hopes that this year’s Prom will allow same-sex couples to participate in the event, to keep with the theme of the fest.
When asked about challenges that the club faces, Aviral said that keeping a large crowd interested and entertained is difficult. As audience participation and encouragement is a big factor in a lot of events, the team hopes to live up to the challenge and make it a success. Another issue is the disparity in the batches attending Prom. “Having couples of all batches in the same dance tends to make people less likely to mingle. We take it up as a responsibility to get people to open up and mix with students of all batches.”
In his parting message, Aviral said, ‘All BITSians have a class to maintain, and I hope that everybody lives up to it. Also do remember to enjoy the fest and do experience the Prom.’
