The BOSM English Press sat down in conversation with Jiwesh Garg, the BOSM coordinator of RadioAktiv, to understand the work of the club for BOSM.
In general, the club organises large scale events such as the annual prom night during APOGEE. Jiwesh said that the club is organising three main events for BOSM, namely, a karaoke and open mic stage that runs throughout the duration of the fest, a “Beg, Borrow, Steal” event to be organised on October 17, 2022, and their main event—Laser Tag—to be held at VK Lawns on October 16 and 17, 2022. He added that the karaoke station would not be held in collaboration with the Karaoke Club and that the Laser Tag would be independent of the Adventure Sports Zone to be set up by the Department of Live Events.
A noteworthy point would be that “Beg, Borrow, Steal” is an event usually conducted and popularised by the Department of Informalz. When asked about the same, Jiwesh mentioned that he did not know why Informalz did not take it up for this edition of the fest, but that RadioAktiv pitched for it and were thus allotted it.
When asked about the work that RadioAktiv did throughout the year, Jiwesh explained that RadioAktiv worked only during the fests. He hinted at some interesting events being planned for Oasis 2022, including an Escape Room event and (another) Prom Nite. He added that RadioAktiv had been working for BOSM for multiple previous editions, and added that previous editions have included the open mic as well as an Escape Room event.
Jiwesh then charted out the roadmap for the club’s preparation for BOSM. He explained that they first check the feasibility of organising a particular event. He mentioned that decoration and preparation was not something that caused them a lot of worry, because most of the setting up would be done by the Department of Reception and Accommodation (RecNAcc). As for the Laser Tag, he mentioned that RecNAcc was only in charge of setting up the tent, but both the decoration and the on-ground logistics would be handled by RadioAktiv. He explained that by checking feasibility, he meant that the event must be ‘good for both the Sports Council and the participants’. When asked if the events organised by RadioAktiv were free, Jiwesh explained that while both the Open Mic and the “Beg, Borrow, Steal” events were free of charge, Laser Tag would be charging INR 250 per head for entry.
Jiwesh explained that the club had come a long way from initially hosting radio shows to the event organising club that it is today. He added that he has had a great time as the coordinator and has felt supported at every juncture by his peers, juniors, and seniors alike. He also said that he has had a great time working with the CoSSAc and the Sports Union and mentioned that their issues were more venue-related than budget-related.
To conclude, Jiwesh urged the general public to attend the events as RadioAktiv has worked hard to make the events equally fun and affordable for all.
