Renewable Energy Club

The Oasis English Press sat down with Deepak Agarwal, the Oasis Coordinator of the Renewable Energy Club (REC), to understand the inner workings of the club and its preparation for the upcoming fest.

When asked about Oasis ’23, Deepak explained that REC would be conducting three events, the first of which is “Solar Cooked Food.” The event spans over two days, wherein Professor Manoj Soni would be involved in making solar-cooked cakes. REC would be handling all the transactions and managing the stall. He also mentioned that all profits generated during the event would be donated to charity.

Deepak further stated that the second event is called “Cyclotron”. In the event, each participant would have 20 seconds to pedal a stationary cycle placed on a fixed stand. With the help of Arduinos and Magnetic Reading Sensors, the distance covered, maximum speed, and energy saved would be calculated. The participant with the most distance covered would be the winner. He also mentioned that there would not be any registration fees, and that ‘the glowing LED lights would be a sight to behold.’

The third event, “Energy Bingo”, is a new event comprising a normal bingo game, but integrated with renewable energy concepts. Teams would be provided with custom bingo cards, and questions would be asked related to renewable energy concepts. The team with the correct answer would get to cross the corresponding number on their bingo card. The first team to complete a row, column or diagonal would win. Deepak added that this event had no registration fees either.

Deepak mentioned that Cyclotron was conducted last year as well, however, this year the club has changed the event slightly by integrating LEDs into the setup, and that provisions for calculation of the maximum speed achieved by a participant have also been made.

Deepak stated that integration of sensors in the Cyclotron event involved a lot of challenges, the biggest being keeping them attached to the cycle. Apart from that, Deepak said the process of setting up was proceeding smoothly. He also said that the new batch of juniors were very active.

As concluding thoughts, Deepak said that the excitement possessed by REC for organising eco-friendly and engaging activities ‘cannot be understated.’ He added that everyone’s involvement can make a big difference in creating a sustainable future.
