When passing by the SU room in the weeks leading up to Oasis, Rahul Unnithan, the StuCCAn of the Department of Reception and Accommodation, may be seen deep in conversation with the President, General Secretary, and other StuCCAns. Sparing a few minutes to talk to the Oasis English Press, he told us about the department’s work leading up to, and during Oasis. Apart from setting up stalls and decorations, they coordinate with the institute to provide electricity, water and utilities where required.
In the week preceding Oasis, the department’s members may be seen laying out mattresses in the hostels and readying accommodation centers for incoming participants. Last year, they were able to host 1650-1700 outstation participants without major glitches, and hope to increase the number this time around. Once the fest commences, they will have to handle disbursement of inventory for clubs and departments, and will take care of escorting the participants to where they need to go.
As a member of the StuCCA, Rahul’s decisions do not always revolve around the work of RecNAcc. He is involved in other general and executive decisions that are required for the fest, and says that the decision-making process which involved a lot of cost-benefit analysis was a lot of fun. Rahul asks BITSians to respect the efforts of every club, department, and team that is involved in the fest, as the sheer amount of (rather invisible) hard work that goes in ought to be appreciated. ‘Sit back and enjoy – this fest is for you’, says Rahul as he heads back to work.
