Renewable Energy Club

Ram Nachiappan, the coordinator of the Renewable Energy Club (REC), had a chat with the Oasis English Press ahead of the cultural fest to give an insight into the club’s events.

He described the objective of the REC as promoting the use of renewable energy sources and trying to extract the best out of waste. He gave a glimpse at the history of the REC, which had initially started out as a purely technical club but eventually ventured into different spheres under the guidance of Prof. Manoj Soni. Ram believed that his presence had helped grow the club and the REC planned to participate in the Global Decathlon—a prestigious technical competition.

He said that managing events at this year’s APOGEE had been a new but an immensely enjoyable learning experience for members of REC even though the recruitments for the 2021 batch had not gone as planned. At Oasis 2022, REC would be holding an event called “Pedal to Medal”—a cycling event where the participating cyclists generate electricity by pedalling. REC had also collaborated with an NGO and would be reiterating the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals as announced by the United Nations.

On being asked about his expectations for the Golden Jubilee of Oasis, Ram chuckled and said that the efforts put in by BITSians for their clubs and departments were commendable. He said that Oasis had and will always have a huge reputation to live up to and he believed that this year’s edition would be an amazing and unforgettable experience for all BITSians and visitors.
