Renewable Energy Club

With APOGEE inching closer every day, the APOGEE English Press interviewed Divesh Tiwari, the coordinator of the Renewable Energy Club (REC). The club works under Dr. Manoj Kumar Soni, researching and undertaking projects on alternative clean energy solutions, he explained. This year, they would be conducting two legacy events—Solar Cooker and their flagship event, Cyclotron.

Talking about the latter, Divesh explained that the event would feature a competition where each participant would be given twenty seconds to pedal a stationary cycle. The top three distances would be awarded kind points and merchandise from their associated sponsor. He elaborated that the cycles would be fitted with Arduino boards and magnetic sensors to accurately measure the distance each participant travelled. He added that in the past, the event had been set up using the club members’ cycles, however, this year they had requested the CoStAA to arrange unused cycles for the same. Divesh stated that salvaging old equipment was part of their club’s motto.

He further mentioned that their other event, Solar Cooker, would be held in their stall in the Krishna Bhavan parking lot with help from Dr. Manoj Kumar Soni. He stated that the club would be selling freshly baked foodstuffs and all generated revenue would be donated to the non-profit organisation, Nirmaan.

On a concluding note, Divesh shared that the budget cuts had not affected their preparations for APOGEE, owing to ‘the nature of their club and its events’, and claimed that their meetings with the CoStAA had been smooth. He urged everyone to come attend Solar Cooker, adding that it would be for a good cause.
