The BOSM English Press recently interviewed Ananya Reddy, the BOSM Coordinator of the Safety and Medical Advisory Council (SMAC), to learn more about their work for the upcoming sports fest.
Established in 2012, Ananya described SMAC as the first responders to any injury during a fest. They had planned two tents—one at GymG and the other at the Student Activities Centre (SAC)—each staffed with paramedics and equipped to provide first aid.
Ananya explained that SMAC’s work mainly involved arranging medical inventory and coordinating with paramedics. Another key task was reaching out to team captains and club coordinators to identify specific medical requirements, in addition to what SMAC anticipated. She noted that this was often their biggest challenge and necessitated a stock of surplus inventory in case of unforeseen injuries. This year, she expressed confidence that they were fully prepared and highlighted that, unlike previous fests, SMAC also had female paramedics on board this time.
Ananya shared that a new addition to BOSM this year would be the SOS button to be found on the BOSM App, which would help SMAC respond more quickly to emergencies. Following the injuries in the previous concert, she mentioned, SMAC would also be setting up a booth at South Park during the professional show.
Finally, Ananya stated that her experience as Coordinator had been great so far. Most of SMAC’s pre-fest work had concluded, and to the GBM, she said, ‘Enjoy the fest, be it cuts or bruises, we’ve got you covered.’
