Abhyuday Sharma, the coordinator of SMAC found some time for an interview in his busy schedule. Although he was exhausted, he gave an insightful interview about the department, without showing the slightest hint of fatigue.

‘Our department is basically concerned with the medical and safety issues regarding the student community’, he begins. ‘During BOSM, we undertake the responsibility of supplying first aid and other basic medical facilities for the participant teams. We make sure that an ambulance is available, for emergencies, especially during taekwondo’, he says.

Unlike last year, SMAC is going to make ice packs available for every sports event this time.  The numerous complaints about the non-availability of first aid that had surfaced last year have persuaded SMAC to take these matters more seriously this time.

SMAC is the first body to be contacted in case of any emergency or accident. A stall is going to be in place during BOSM, which will have basic medical facilities and possibly a paramedic. Posters will be put up, containing the contact numbers of all the concerned students and authorities, regarding medical and security matters.

Further, Abhyuday claimed there had been an alarming rise in the number of cases regarding mental issues and depression lately. He requested all BITSians to keep this in mind and reach out to anyone in the council if any of their friends displayed signs of depression.
