Snooker Round-up

With 14 teams from 13 different colleges participating in snooker, SAC 3 couldn’t have been a livelier place for snooker enthusiasts to be in. BITSians who have witnessed the progress of snooker over the years as a sport would agree that the 31st edition of BOSM is the best yet.

The semifinals had BITS Hyderabad competing against KIET. Even though BITS Hyderabad had a great start and won the first frame with 57-23, KIET glided through the second and third frames with 45-15 and 55-28, making it seem easy for an oblivious bystander, thus bagging a bronze.

This BOSM has given many a stranger experiences to carry home but none compare to the hour-long final. Chitkara was certainly a team to be reckoned with but BITSians aren’t easily intimidated. The best of five left an anticipating audience after each and every frame. Dhruv and Sahil represented Chitkara, while Anirudh and Prateek represented BITS-A. The highest break made was 27 by Sahil. The game was successful in teasing the audience until the very end, as, at the end of four frames, the score was tied and the deciding frame provided little closure as Sahil potted the remaining balls making it a tie. The tie breaker was no exception to this never-ending chasm of anticipation as the game wasn’t decided until the pink was potted by Anirudh with an elegant stroke of the cue.

Anirudh and Prateek’s happiness over bagging the gold was equally matched by Atharv, the team captain, playing in his last BOSM. Memoria praeteritorum bonorum.
