With less than a week left for this year’s Oasis, the coordinator of the Department of Sounds, Vignesh Nagrajan, spoke to the Oasis English Press about their work in the fest.
The department consists of only six students, who work relentlessly for the smooth sailing of events like the Inauguration, Stage Plays, Andholika, Tarang, Razzmatazz, Antakshari, and N2O. On being asked how they prepare to handle these many events with such a small workforce, Vignesh felt that the chemistry between the group had been an integral part of their functioning. They ready themselves throughout the semester—with events such as Music Nite, Gurukul Nite, and professional shows for BOSM—to manage the workload during Oasis. ‘We relatively have more creative independence during these events than in Oasis. They also help us groom the freshers’, he said.
He admitted that being a coordinator has been a tiring experience for him, but he enjoys the challenge as he works for the events that interest him. This year onwards, Sounds and Production are planning to collaborate in order to facilitate better management of events. He believes that this will help in smooth changeovers during events such as Rocktaves and Tarang.
He felt that Oasis should revolve around the nites and not around the highly popularized professional shows. As a parting note to the general BITSian, he said, ‘Listen to good music’.
