Department of Sounds

With Oasis just around the corner, the Oasis English Press sat down with the coordinator of the Department of Sounds (Sounds), Madhav Nath Khanna, to gather some information about its role in the fest.

Madhav explained that Sounds is responsible for managing the sound system for various events such as N2O, the inauguration ceremony, and other events during the fest. He added that during the rest of the year, it handles the music arrangements for events conducted in the main auditorium, such as Dhwani by Gurukul, Music Nite, Raag Nites, plays by the Hindi Drama Club, and more. He said that the department consists of only seven people since the recruitment procedure for the 2023 batch has not concluded yet. He added that the department requires minimal preparatory work as the members are well-versed with their equipment. However, their work during the fest leads to shifts extending up to fourteen hours in a day, he explained.

Madhav shared that he expected his work as the coordinator to be exceedingly tiresome, but he was able to manage the workload easily. He said that the events conducted throughout the year gave the department a good amount of practice for their work during the fest.

Madhav reiterated Oasis’ legacy as a very enjoyable fest and encouraged the new batch of freshers to try and enjoy the fest. ‘Don’t hesitate to stay up all night or to even stay up throughout Oasis’, he said. He wished everyone a great Oasis, hoping it would leave them with unique stories to tell.
