Asutosh, the coordinator of SoVeSA, took time off his busy schedule for an interview with the OASIS English Press to provide some insight into the club’s work.
SoVeSA stands for the Society Of Vedic Exploration and Societal Advancement. Started a year and a half ago by Asutosh and two of his friends, it aims to pique spiritual curiosity and explore Vedic solutions to real-world problems. The founders were enlightened after attending a missionary’s talk in Jaipur. They came to realize that people are never satisfied with material possessions and that meditation and Vedic literature offer one a chance to introspect and find out their true needs. While the growth of the club has been slow, Asutosh is satisfied with the club’s progress. The club prioritizes like-minded and committed people over a large number of people not vested in their cause.
Asutosh had an interesting interpretation of Neon Noir—the theme for this year’s OASIS. He feels that the opposite of spiritual enlightenment is material darkness. People are always searching for some sense of material satisfaction that they can never achieve, rather than seeking enlightenment through spiritual means. According to him, the club’s ideology contrasts well with the OASIS theme and offers a different perspective to the audience.
Asutosh expects a good response in this year’s OASIS. His advice to the genBITSian is the motto of the club — “Athato brahma jijnasa”, which roughly translates to “Now is the time to introspect and let go of our material attachments”.
