The English Press sat down with members of the Sports Financial Committee (SFC) for a brief talk about their work during BOSM and throughout the semester. The three full members are Adaa Bhardwaj, Sahaj Tandi, and Yash Saboo; the three volunteer members are Pradyut Sood, Vidhatra Shukla, and Vinayak Bhattacharya.
In general, the SFC overlooks the finances of all events during BOSM and conducts elections to the Sports Council. For BOSM, they are involved in budgeting, cash collection, and auditing. Leading up to BOSM, they were busy with several CoSSAc meetings, budgeting the potential expenses and sanctioning payments, and coordinating all clubs and departments involved. One of their most important achievements pre-fest was integrating a single UPI system for the first time for BOSM—where all payments would be made to a single account, and each one budgeted to track individual earnings.
Adaa stated that the workload did tend to be overwhelming, but the small size of the committee was advantageous in that sensitive information would not be shared with too many people.
When asked about the lack of sponsorship and other issues SFC faced during this BOSM, they felt the finances ‘could have been much better.’ The aim of the fest was to ‘break even’—this would mean that expenses and earnings have been balanced, and funds utilised fully. He noted that the purchasing power of the college seemed to have increased post-pandemic, and hoped this would make up for the lower funding secured this year. Yash admitted that there were ‘communication gaps’ between the graduated members of the SFC and the current ones—one that they tried their best to close.
Post-fest, the most important task the SFC has is the formation of a “clearance cell”, which issues reimbursements to club coordinators and heads for any expenses borne for the fest. Payments are issued in bulk so that students receive their money back. Other than that, they oversee the BOSM Review Meet where they go over the fest finances in detail with the captains and coordinators. They are also responsible for the induction of the incoming Sports Council. Yash also said they intended to document every detail of the work they had done for the fest which would, he believed, make future editions of BOSM much better and more successful in the years to come.
