Sports, Publicity and Design (SPD)

With BOSM 2026 just around the corner, the BOSM English Press sat down with Meet Shah, the coordinator for the Department of Sports, Publicity and Design (SPD).

Meet explained that SPD works mainly in BOSM, Inter-BITS and BITS Premier League (BPL). It consists of six verticals: graphic design, video editing, photography, art and decoration, media relations, and operations.

Graphic design handles the designing of BOSM merchandise and social media posts; video editing is responsible for the logo reveal, theme reveal and days-to-go videos, as well as the after-movie and teasers for professional shows; the art and decoration vertical looks after the decoration and lighting around campus during the fest, such as lanterns, banners, and panels that are visible in the main auditorium; the photography vertical covers all the sports trials, conducts team photoshoots and handles coverage for the entirety of BOSM, along with the Photography club; media relations is responsible for all PR, such as post uploads and captions, along with influencer tie-ups; finally, operations works behind-the-scenes to manage inventory for art and decoration along with vendors for lanterns and banners.

Meet clarified that, contrary to public opinion, there’s no ‘intersection’ or ‘clash’ with any other clubs or teams, explaining that they ‘go hand-in-hand’ to ensure complete coverage of the fest with Photog and SUMT, with each of them bringing something unique to the partnership. Speaking on the workload, he said that while it was definitely intense—their work started during the summer months—it was fun to spend time with members of the department and watch them blend with different types of people.

Meet explained that there are one or two PoRs (Persons of Responsibility) per vertical, who coordinate and work together with the juniors to manage the workload. He clarified that it was not at all a hierarchy, stating that even a first-year could come to him directly for help. He described his experience as tedious, though certainly rewarding, as he enjoyed getting to meet new people. He mentioned that there were ‘good days and bad days’, but he felt that they were doing a good job.

Meet mentioned some new initiatives that SPD is implementing this BOSM, such as new decorations around campus, different from Oasis and APOGEE, a ‘structure’ compatible with the theme that will be displayed at the inauguration, as well as bringing in some influencers to promote BOSM, one of which is Palak Choudhary (@yoopalak). He appreciated the Sports Secretary and the Sports Financial Committee for their guidance and support, as well as their openness to different discussions and new events that SPD was organising, which was very helpful to them as their workload had approximately doubled since last year.

On a parting note, Meet said that people generally mistake SPD for a department which includes sports, rather than covering the media and photography aspect of the fest, and that people should definitely follow the coverage and just have fun.
