Sports Union Meet

This article was written in early March. Due to the developments following the spread of the virus, the outstation tournaments were not conducted. The intra-campus tournament, iBOSM, which was initially rescheduled to take place between the 22nd and the 31st of March, was also scrapped. A 4-day, inter-batch workout challenge was conducted across social media platforms from the 12th to the 15th of April, 2020.

The Sports Union had its first meeting of the semester on the 24th of February at the SAC Amphitheatre to discuss changes in the constitution and address relevant developments. The Sports Union Council consists of the Sports Secretary, the three Joint Sports Secretaries, the captains of the sports teams, and one ex-officio member.

First, the Students’ Union Technical Team demonstrated the working of the official Sports Union website. The website will feature all sports teams and team members. It will also have a section dedicated to providing information about the Sports Council, the Sports Financial Committee and the Sports Publicity Team. The blog page will feature players documenting their outstation experiences. They expected the website to be active post the mid-semester exams.*

The Sports Council then proposed two legislations. The first one was to put the Sports Publicity Team in charge of marketing and promoting the sports culture on campus, which inter alia, would involve handling social media profiles related to the Sports Union. They will be under the supervision of a Joint Sports Secretary assigned to the job. As mentioned in the BOSM charter, the team will work during BOSM as the BOSM publicity team.

The second motion was to include the Student Union Technical Team in the Sports Constitution. The team will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the Sports Union website. Further, the team will develop a budget along with the Sports Secretary at the end of his/her tenure and present it to the Sports Council, who will sanction funds. Both motions were put to vote and passed without opposition.

The issue of broken equipment in hostels was addressed next. The Hostel Representatives were asked to give all broken sports gear to an official at Gym-G, who would ensure that they are repaired or replaced. The captains were then informed that the inventory they had ordered would be arriving in two to three days.

Finally, the Council addressed concerns about the scheduling of iBOSM. They planned to conduct the event in the first week of April, right after the outstation tournaments conclude. The Council expected a provisional schedule to be charted out after the mid-semester exams.
