Students’ Union Media Team (SUMT)

With Oasis ’25 just around the corner, the Oasis English Press sat down with Priyanshu Jain, the Coordinator of the Students’ Union Media Team (SUMT), to understand its work during this edition of the fest.

Priyanshu explained that their Oasis team consisted of about 20 members, divided into the PR and Content, Graphic Designing, Video Editing, and Camera Handling teams.

He mentioned that, in addition to the usual fest coverage, the club was also planning to make a ‘Premovie’, to be screened during the Inauguration Ceremony. He added that script-writing for the pre-movie started during the Diwali holidays, and the script was finalised after two drafts. Priyanshu elaborated that the movie covered the efforts of thousands of people who made Oasis ‘25 a reality. He said it covered the entire preparation process, including securing sponsors, gathering participants, coordinating, and accommodating outsiders. ‘The movie that comes out after the fest only showcases the end-product. To convey the real gist of Oasis, it is necessary to include its preparations as well,’ he stated.

Priyanshu remarked that SUMT was also planning to post reels about each day of the fest on its new Instagram page, sumt.bitspilani. He added that these reels were meant to give a broad idea about the entire day of the fest and not just any particular moment or event, so that anyone could repost them. However, he mentioned that they were not sure how well they could execute it, because he felt that it could get a lot more hectic when they were on the ground, and even small mistakes could cause them to miss key moments.

Priyanshu said that the Prof Shows were the most difficult events to cover, because the club’s cameramen were not allowed to shoot very close to the artist. He mentioned that dividing the workforce for coverage was hectic, because ‘during the fest, something or the other was always happening throughout the campus’.

He concluded by stating that SUMT aimed to give a face to each club that participated in the fest, so that no effort went unnoticed.
