SU Review – President

Bharatharatna Puli says that working as President has been a wonderful learning experience, and has provided him with a chance to understand campus affairs more. He also mentioned how he realized that there was much more to being President than fulfilling manifesto points, especially since the President also has to work for the fests.

Puli admits that he is far from accomplishing all he wants to. The concept of a co-working space for clubs and technical teams is yet to be realized, due to delays caused by the after-production work of FD-I. A cycle rental service was implemented on a per-semester basis, with a mail being sent out for the same. The shuttle bus service is expected to be launched by the Comprehensive Exams of this semester.

The official Student Union Portal, which is still under development, is expected to be released by January. As far as the portal for “GSoC” is concerned, the President feels that there is no need for the same to be started right now, but promises that it will be implemented soon. The ‘PS Student Team’ has been pitched to administrative teams across all campuses, but the project has been stopped because of their reservations towards the same.

Smart, Authenticated, Fast Exams (SAFE), another highlight of his manifesto aims at increasing exam correction transparency by conducting exams via iOS and Android devices. Some ideas regarding this have been submitted to the Academic Research Division; each idea is currently being debated upon. Puli believes that his proposal, being the cheapest, will be fully implemented by next year.

Among other points, Laundromat Dry-Cleaning has not been started yet. Renovation of Food King  – a project that involves applying new coat of paint and the installation of a pool table – has not seen any implementation thus far. Much progress however, has been made towards the opening of a unisex salon. A representative of Jawed Habib, Vijay Ola has surveyed the campus, and is all set to present his idea to the institute by next week.

Overall, Puli believes that he couldn’t work towards his manifesto points as much as he wanted to because of having dedicated more time to the fests. Towards the end of the interview, he emphasized on renewing his focus towards his manifesto during the following semester.
