The BOSM English Press sat down with Pari Goel, the Captain of the girls’ swimming team, to dive into her team’s preparations for the upcoming fest.
Pari relayed that the recruitment process for the new batch began in the second week of August, with the swimmers’ main stroke being timed. For BOSM, the team will be participating across all strokes across varying distances, along with relay events like freestyle and medley.
Pari said that until the previous year, the team practiced at Rakesh Academy, where each swimmer had to pay roughly Rs. 2000 per month for access. With the support of Prof. N.V.M. Rao and SWD, the team was given access to the Birla Public Pool for training. Furthermore, travel between the campuses was also arranged, which made training smoother.
When asked about the training sessions, Pari mentioned that a typical session starts with stretching and warm-up exercises outside the pool to help the swimmers loosen up and avoid cramps. Once in the pool, the team starts with rounds of warm-up swimming. The focus of these sets changes daily—sometimes centered on sprint drills, other times on endurance work. The training regimen shifted during the week leading up to BOSM, with the major goal being to allow muscles to recover from the fatigue built up over the previous weeks. Workouts are shortened and the intensity is scaled back, which gives the swimmers time to recover from the previous weeks of training so that they can be well-rested for the BOSM competitions.
Pari explained that over the last edition of BOSM, the girls’ team won 8 medals, with O.P. Jindal and Bennett University being the team’s biggest competitors. She added that with SRCC also competing this year, she anticipates strong competition from their side as well.
When speaking about her experience working with the institute and CoSSAc body, Pari said that it had been a positive one thus far. She shared that being Captain has been both new and deeply rewarding. Beyond overseeing training, she takes responsibility for ensuring that the girls arrive on time, remain consistent, and return safely after sessions. Reflecting on her journey so far, she said, “It’s a balance of leadership in and out of the pool”.
