Team Robocon

With APOGEE looming around the corner, the APOGEE English Press sat down with Ojasva Goyal, the coordinator of Team Robocon, to gain insights into the team’s work during APOGEE 2024.

Ojasva explained that Robocon is a research team that works on short-term as well as long-term problems like drone navigation. They will be organising their kernel event, ‘Robo-league’ during the fest, in which teams of two or three compete in a robot soccer match. This edition of ‘Robo-league’, according to Ojasva, will boast an international-sized arena and improved participation levels compared to the previous edition of APOGEE.

The team also hosts the ‘Robocon exhibition’ to showcase what has been achieved in the past year, including autonomous drone demonstrations and a quadruped robot. The robot is designed and programmed in-house, inspired by Boston Dynamics’ Spot, and will be demonstrated for the first time.

Ojasva affirmed that the preparations are going smoothly and that enough time will be spent for testing code and finalising presentation material for potential sponsors. He also shared that their goal was to maintain the highest standards of organisation. To accomplish this they had consulted with professional teams from both India and abroad that included organisers of IIT Bombay and IIT Roorkee. When asked about the challenges Robocon faced, Ojasva shared that their first arena vendor had backed out, but a replacement was found and agreed upon quickly using past contacts.

On a concluding note, he remarked, ‘Let’s experience the future together and make some noise for the teams in the arena’.
