With BOSM just over a week away, the BOSM English Press sat down with the captain of the Boys’ Tennis team, Kunal Dhingra, to learn more about the team’s preparation for the approaching fest.
Having been appointed captain in the second semester of the previous year, Kunal said that there were a few initial hiccups in his tenure. However, they were ironed out easily, and the team has been completely focused on preparing for BOSM this semester. Kunal said that he planned the training schedule in advance, and dedicated the first week of training to getting the players back in form. At the moment, the team is focused on getting as much match-time as possible to ensure that everyone is prepared mentally and physically for the fest.
In this edition of BOSM, tennis matches will be played in teams of 3–5. Each match will consist of a singles set, a doubles set, and, in case of a tie, a final singles set as a decider. Speaking of the difference in the training regimen between the two formats, Kunal said that while the technique remains the same, the doubles format requires the knowledge and implementation of tactics and strategies, something their coach has been helpful with.
Speaking of the competition that the team was expecting in the upcoming fest, Kunal explained that Sri Venkateswara College has always been a major rival of the home team, and that he expects this year’s competition to be especially intense.
The main challenge facing the team that Kunal highlighted was the lack of courts on campus; only two courts are available for the Boys’ and Girls’ teams to use. In addition to this, these courts are also being used for GBM coaching. However, he added that any potential problems arising from such an arrangement were aptly resolved by the Sports Council. He also described his interactions with the Sports Council as ‘very smooth’, stating that they had done a great job at meeting the team’s requirements.
Concluding the interview, the captain requested the GBM to show up to support the home team, and also urged everyone to enjoy the fest.
