Tennis (Boys) – Aditya Sriram

The BOSM English Press reached out to Aditya Sriram, the Captain of the Boys’ Tennis team, to learn more about the team and their preparation for the fest.

The boys’ tournament will consist of a group stage and a knockout stage. The teams will first play a singles match, followed by a doubles round, and then another singles match. The winning team will be decided on a best-of-three basis.

Aditya informed us that the boys’ tennis team is currently practising for two hours daily on court, along with an extra hour or two of fitness training. In the week leading up to BOSM, they plan on cutting back on their time on court and focusing on strategising in order to rest and reduce the probable injuries before the tournament. Due to the lack of substitute players, the team members are cautious about getting injured. Besides this, they did not face any major issues because of the absence of the 2022 batch.

Aditya has been playing tennis since he was five years old. He said that he picked the game up as a hobby after watching Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer play. Owing to his academic commitments in high school, he could start playing regularly again after coming to BITS.

Speaking about his experience as the captain, Aditya said that he is more appreciative of the behind-the-scenes work that is involved in managing the team. Dealing with all the different departments that organise the fest taught him how to work with people of different temperaments.

To conclude, Aditya talked about how everyone in the team is comfortably balancing their academics with the sport. He explained that for most people in the team, playing tennis is a therapeutic activity, and it helps them increase their productivity.
