Amidst his busy schedule as the coordinator during the 51st Oasis, Souvagya Ghosh spoke to the Oasis English Press about his experience so far.
Souvagya said that the most common misconception about The Eastern Outlook happened to be that it was only an Anime Club, when in reality the reach of the club activities extended to all forms of Eastern media, including K-pop, K-dramas, and J-pop bands. He added that the overall aim of the club was to spread awareness about Eastern media, especially obscure titles. He mentioned that the most common activity of this club was to screen movies, and they screened Suzume at 5102 LTC on 22nd October as their pre-Oasis event.
He said that the Eastern Outlook had been hosting events in Oasis since 2018, and their club has had two legacy events: “Anime Quiz” and “ESPOIR Game Room”. He added that the “Anime Quiz” was open to everyone, and in the Game room, they hosted card games like UNO with cash prizes for the top three winners.
He mentioned that this Oasis they were also organizing a new event called “Anime Photo Booth” where people could have pictures taken along with cosplay articles such as Katanas and wigs. According to Souvagya, they went with this idea because it mixed the general appeal of Oasis such as taking photos, and added a special twist of the club to it, making it a perfect event to make fun memories. Souvagya mentioned that he had a particularly hard time finding vendors they could purchase articles from. He was particularly thankful to the Department of Sponsorship for their help in this particular area.
Souvagya mentioned that while he felt like he could have done better work, he was very excited and proud of what his club had come up with in the end. He said that he found organizing “Anime Quiz” to be a bit challenging and they were still working on the questions for the second round. He added that throughout this entire process of coordinating these events, he got many chances to interact with his juniors and watch movies with his peers. In conclusion, he said that while the job itself was challenging, he found the overall experience to be very fun and worthwhile.
