The past few months saw a constant back and forth between the Students’ Union (SU) and the Corroboration and Review Committee (CRC). This article intends to simplify the events that took place around these bodies for the benefit of the average General Body Member.
- 50th Oasis: November 19 to November 23, 2023
The long-awaited golden jubilee of Oasis was conducted from November 19, 2022, to November 23, 2022. The fest consisted of various events and Prof Shows. Some notable events included N2O, Bollywood Nite, EDM Nite, and Indie Nite.
- Email Sent by CRC Regarding “Financial Irregularities”: December 1, 2022
The GBM received an email from CRC stating that they had received an anonymous tip-off regarding “certain financial irregularities” that occurred during Oasis. The email stated that CRC was investigating the matter against the President and General Secretary of the Students’ Union.
- Videos of the President admitting to taking money released online: December 3, 2022
A couple of videos, with text added in images, began circulating throughout WhatsApp groups associated with the campus. The text denounced the President and General Secretary for their alleged corruption, and accused them of “innumerable unsaid scams”. The attached videos depicted the President conversing with an unknown individual, wherein he admitted to taking a cut of two and a half per cent from the revenue accrued from the food stalls set up during Oasis.

Shortly after this, a single text forward from the Students’ Union started making rounds online. In response to the allegations, the message called out former General Secretary Harsh Lamba for attempting to undermine the President. The text stated that Lamba was forming his own narratives and assured the GBM of a transparent resolution of the issue.
- Oasis Review Meet: December 4, 2022
The Oasis Review Meet lasted over ten hours and saw a litany of motions and flared tempers. In this meeting, the Union Council vetoed a few motions that saw clear approval from the Oasis Review Committee (ORC). One of the motions was aimed at placing the Department of Sponsorship and Marketing (Sponz) under probation, citing the dissatisfactory quality of work, which included food stalls, performed during Oasis. The motion passed, stripping Sponz from its status as a major department for Oasis.

CRC spoke to the English and Hindi Press Clubs about the ongoing investigations against the President and General Secretary. They explained where the issues in financial regularities rose, and how they worked to corroborate the information they received. They also spoke about the steps they took in response to their findings, and stated that further action was pending.
- SU releases another statement acknowledging the video to the GBM via EPC: December 11, 2022
The President and General Secretary reached out to the English Press Club to share their side of the story, given that CRC had released their statement. The President claimed that CRC lacked conclusive evidence, and blamed the StuCCAn of Sponz for being uncooperative at a critical juncture. They concluded that propaganda was being spread, and questioned the unbiasedness of CRC.

CRC sent another root mail detailing the results of their investigation. They labelled the statements by the President and General Secretary as “inconsistent”, and claimed to have spoken to multiple sources over several weeks. Declaring that the President failed to act in accordance with the Constitution, they also released a list of countermeasures, threatening to invoke flagrant violations if those were not followed. The email stated that both, Ashirwad and Naman, will cease to hold their financial signatory powers for all payments until further notice.

An email signed by the President was sent out to the GBM, accusing CRC of committing unconstitutional actions and acting out of authority. Elaborating on the process of investigation, the SU also attached two documents to support their case. They implored the GBM to read the constitution. One of the documents attached consisted of a collection of proofs and a detailed explanation from the President which attempted to justify the actions taken by the SU during Oasis.
For the fourth or fifth time, they accuse CRC of trying to disregard the apparent “sentiment” of the GBM.
