BITS A boys’ volleyball team is off to a good start in BOSM 2017 after their convincing victory against their first opponents, Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) from Faridabad. In the game that took place last night, the hosts defeated the visitors 25-14, 25-16. The game saw decent spectatorship, with most of the crowd supporting the hosts.
Though the first set started well for the team from Faridabad, it didn’t last long. BITS A made a spontaneous comeback after losing the first few points and kept going thereafter. Determined to get back in the game, MRIU displayed a better defensive play in the first few minutes of the second set. Their attempt was unfortunately short-lived, and this bold move of theirs also took a toll on their defense, which only worsened from that point onwards. The second set also saw them make a few other costly mistakes, like leaving a majority of their side of the court exposed. This was continuously exploited by the BITS A team to sustain their lead throughout to ultimately win the game.
Despite the convincing win, BITS A’s libero – the ever dependable defender – Parth, felt that they need to improve their attacking game. ‘Defensively we were better but the attack was not up to the mark. I would rate our performance 7 out of 10’, said Parth as he was analyzing their game after the match was over.
‘We don’t know who our next opponent is, but according to the fixtures we will play with different attackers.’ he said when asked about changes in the teams ahead of their next encounter. With eighteen teams taking part in this league-cum-knockout type event, the BITSian team still has a long way to go.
