The BOSM English Press recently sat down with Nirjar Patel, captain of the Boys’ Volleyball Team, to talk about how they’re gearing up for this edition of BOSM.
It was explained that volleyball is played between two teams, each with seven players, though only six are on the court at a time. Players rotate clockwise through different positions, ensuring that they take on various roles throughout the game. This rotation was noted to add strategy to both offensive and defensive play.
Nirjar’s journey with volleyball was said to have begun when he came to college. Initially new to the sport, he quickly grew fond of it, and his passion was mentioned to have only deepened over time. Despite the demands of the game, it was stated that Nirjar has found a way to balance his academic responsibilities alongside volleyball, a challenge he shares with his teammates.
He shared his advice to them: study after morning practice, attend classes, and then use any free time before evening practice to focus on academics. He stated that he believes this routine helps them manage both their studies and sports effectively. His team is known for their rigorous training schedule, often mentioned to be the first to arrive and the last to leave during both morning and evening sessions.
Looking ahead, it was expressed by Nirjar that he is excited about the upcoming BOSM 2024 and the future of volleyball in his life. He stated that he hopes to continue playing the sport at BITS alumni gatherings even after graduation. As the tournament approaches, his love for the game was mentioned to drive him to encourage everyone to come and watch the matches at BOSM, highlighting that the support of the crowd plays a huge role in boosting the team’s morale.
