Volleyball (Girls)

With BOSM ‘26 less than a week away, the BOSM English Press sat down in conversation with Suhitha, the captain of the girls’ volleyball team, to learn about her and the team’s experience in preparation for the upcoming fest.

Suhitha explained that the sport consisted of six different positions, and for BOSM, the team played in rotation, with every player switching positions in an anti-clockwise sense upon a point being scored. She explained that this encouraged the team to learn all the roles and to strategically play to their strengths.

She stated that the team had focused the initial training sessions on fitness and improving stamina. They then moved on to polishing their skills. She further elaborated that since almost all members were new to the sport and had no prior experience, they paid special attention to learning the rules and getting the basic techniques down first, before learning to play strategically.

Suhitha elaborated that the team was excited and prepared to play against their rival teams—LNMIIT and Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology—both of whom they had faced on their respective home grounds last year, and she hoped to avenge their losses. Talking about other tournaments, she recalled that the team had competed in IIT Bombay’s fest last year and hoped to compete in InterBITS and explore more outstation competitions this year.

She stated that she found managing the team quite relaxing, and mentioned that the institute and CoSSAc had been very supportive and accommodating. She further elaborated that she was content with how well the team members had bonded and that they felt comfortable enough to approach her for guidance. She encouraged her juniors to manage their time well between academics and morning and evening practice. She further reminded them of their commitment and contribution to the team owing to it being a team sport.

As a parting note, she encouraged the student body to show up, support and cheer the team on, comparing it to the sledging she had faced in various outstanding competitions.
