The BOSM English Press met with Ishan Kumar, coordinator of the Students’ Union Technical Team, to learn how the team will work for the upcoming fest.

Ishan started off by explaining how the SUTT developed the registration portal used by all external participants coming for the fest; the department portals used by PCr, Firewallz, BOSM Controls, and RecNAcc; a portal for the SFC; signings portals for concerts and club coordinators; and an app for vendors, in addition to the BOSM app. They also made the curtain raiser and promotional reels for BOSM.

Ishan mentioned that they mainly worked on improving the department portals this year, since they chiefly got complaints regarding those, and not the BOSM app. He mentioned that the extensive amount of testing SUTT does before releasing any of their products was one of the reasons they expected this to be their smoothest BOSM yet. This year’s theme, the “Echoes of the Colosseum”, was incorporated into the website, which had been up since August. Regarding the theme for the app, Ishan said the app did not typically follow the theme, to give the design team more creative freedom. This year’s BOSM app would introduce a feature for splitting bills and improvements to the food ordering system.

Coming to the timelines, Ishan said that SUTT had been working since June, iterating on the design and making the video, which was one of the team’s more challenging responsibilities. He also mentioned how the various teams collaborated together in person during their work sessions to reduce friction and ease the development process, and how the advent of AI tools had eased some of their work. During BOSM, most of the team would enjoy the fest, while some members of the backend team would stay on call to assist the various departments, vendors, and the occasional participant with any issues that arise.

Ishan talked about how his interaction with the CoSSAc and various departments had been smooth and, on a concluding note, mentioned how rewarding it was to be part of an active technical team and advised juniors to join one.
