Postman Innovation Labs

As preparations for BOSM neared their summit, the BOSM English Press sat down with Pranav Gandotra, the video lead and BOSM coordinator of the Postman Innovation Labs, in order to gain insight into their work prior to the fest.

According to Pranav, the lab was simply ‘a community of people who tried to innovate’. He shared that while their most popular vertical was neurotech, it was their video vertical that acted as the cornerstone of their work during BOSM. Their responsibilities focused on the production of the BOSM’26 aftermovie: a highlight of everything that happened during the fest, made with the purpose of marketing BOSM. Additionally, the team was also working on the mascot and theme reveals.

Pranav divulged that the team began work for BOSM at the beginning of the summer vacation, starting with the BOSM ’25 aftermovie. He revealed that the process involved researching previous aftermovies, both from BITS and other institutes, before selecting clips that would fit the music they selected.

Speaking of the challenges he faced, Pranav spoke about the dearth of communication between members initially and how it caused a lot of friction, especially for a vertical which requires constant collaboration like video. He noted that the unexpected influx of work which came with the mascot reveal stretched the team too thin and required more ad hoc recruitments. He also spoke about the lack of good clips and about how most clips were in portrait rather than landscape form, which was why the BOSM ’24 aftermovie was scrapped. He was, however, optimistic about clips this year and stated that clips from BOSM ’25 were significantly better than the previous year.

‘I would want more of my team’s effort to go into editing, exploring new styles, and actually improving their skills and innovating, rather than spending hours looking for which three-second clip works out of a three-minute video,’ shared Pranav. He also attributed the team’s difficulties to the lack of good aftermovies to learn from, asserting that the last good ones he found were from BOSM ’17 and ’18, which were ‘too far back to represent what BOSM is like now’. He also spoke about his desire to begin work on the ’26 aftermovie in the first semester in order for it to have a bigger impact.

Pranav then proceeded to acknowledge the support that he had received from his team and CoSSAc. He disclosed that the sports secretary had been extremely warm and accommodating of deadline extensions and, additionally, had also been pushing for the aftermovie to be released on the timeline Pranav wanted.

Pranav concluded the interview by underlining his confidence in the team and expressing how, despite their rocky start, he was now confident of a great future for Postman Video.
