Indian Game Theory Society

With Oasis ’26 just on the horizon, the Oasis English Press sat down with Dhruv Deepak of the Indian Game Theory Society (IGTS), to gain insight into their preparation.

As a fairly new club in the BITS timeline, IGTS was formed in the previous semester by its eight core members, including him. It operated through two verticals: Research, where the members transferred ideas through consolidated prof sessions and worked on domain-specific projects, aiming to publish articles or research papers; and Management, where they worked on the club and fest organisation.

With their recruitment for this session still underway, the Oasis operations were handled by their core team. This time, IGTS executed only one structured event- the Bazaar Bluff, incorporating some ‘Arabic themes’, which would also be mirrored through their marketing structure.

It was designed as a three-round, game-theory-centric competition where participants competed in teams. The outcome of the games relied entirely on room dynamics, interactive lobbying, and how well teams could perceive and influence the decisions of other competitors. The first round forced teams to actively lobby the room, while the second round introduced a style where teams balanced collaborative group goals while maximizing their own individual scores. The third round drew inspiration from the American television game show, Split Second. He further added They planned to increase the number of events they were hosting during Apogee.

Dhruv shared that the biggest hurdle was their lack of experience and senior guidance, as they were a group of second-year students with no prior expertise. Together, they brainstormed solutions to many problems that showed up during this time, including venue set-up, pitching, and resource procurement, and expected to tie up any loose ends by the pre-fest week.

Overall, in Dhruv’s words, being the Coordinator was a pleasant experience, and he thoroughly enjoyed working with the team, coming up with ideas, executing them accordingly, and handling the procurement of the new batch. He also shared that, with Oasis starting in a few days, there was a mixed emotional atmosphere—with butterflies fluttering, quiet expectations, and the contentment that their hard work and late-night discussions would pay off as people enjoyed the game. On a concluding note, he requested that all BITSians enjoy the events properly and adhere to the guidelines laid down by the StuCCA.
