With Oasis ’26 just a few days away, the Oasis English Press sat down with Anmol Sharma, the Coordinator of the Students’ Union Media Team (SUMT), to gain insight into their work during the fest.
Anmol explained that for the past four to five years, SUMT’s work for Oasis was mainly to make short movies that would then be played at the Inauguration of the fest. He further added that the SUMT acted as a liaison between the GBM and the administration by relaying official rules and regulations to the GBM and conveying GBM queries and requests to the administration.
Anmol specified that the SUMT not only showcased movies, but also covered the entirety of Oasis. He added that being a multi-day event, the fest required significant media coverage, after which followed editing and posting on social media handles. Therefore, the media team would follow a very hectic schedule. Anmol highlighted, ‘…someone or the other must be awake at some point..’. He recounted that in his second year, he worked all day sorting and editing clips and covered prof shows and other events in the evening.
Regarding the organisation of the team, Anmol elaborated on the various verticals in the team, being: Camera, PR and Content, Design, and Video Editing verticals, each having well-defined roles. For example, the editing team was primarily responsible for the reels made throughout the fest, whereas the PR and Content-Creation team handled the interviews of BITSians and outsties alike.
When asked about the status of preparations for the fest, Anmol replied that they would start their work 3-4 days before the fest, when they would work on finishing up the movies they were to showcase. This year, they plan to showcase two movies. One would focus on the impact of BITSians on the locals of Pilani, an idea that struck Anmol while interviewing Pilani residents for Oasis ‘25. The other movie’s theme would be revealed ‘later’. SUMT would be collaborating with clubs like Enactus, Nirmaan and PARC for shooting the movie.
Anmol also noted that this year, the team would be posting reels in the form of vlogs, interviews or different footage edited together, instead of just posting pictures of each day of the fest as was done in the past. He further stated that the StuCCA had been extremely accommodating, and that the team faced no challenges while collaborating with other clubs.
Anmol stated that his experience with the team so far had been great, and lauded them for their hard work and for always giving their ‘hundred and ten percent’. He expressed his love for making short films since high school, further stating that being part of SUMT allowed him to pursue this hobby to a greater level. On a parting note, Anmol urged the freshers to attend every event they could, compromise on their sleep schedule for a few days and just have fun at Oasis.
