Dance Club (DC)

With Oasis ’26 just around the corner, the Oasis English Press (OEP) sat down with Karan Kini, the Coordinator of the Dance Club (DC) to discuss its events and performances during the fest.

Karan stated that DC would conduct two events—Desert Duels, a solo dance competition, and Razzmatazz, a group dance event. Apart from these, they would also perform at the Oasis Inauguration Ceremony. This performance would entail a classical dance, as well as a western or a Bollywood dance.

Karan elaborated that DC would also participate in two competitions: Streets, a western and battle-themed dance competition that would take place at Rotunda late at night; and Choreo, a story and theme based dance event incorporating lyrical and contemporary dance elements. He explained that the props and music selection would be based on the Oasis ’26 theme—Dawn of the Djinns.

He explained that DC’s work for Oasis started just before Midsems, with inviting famous dance influencers from Delhi and Jaipur to judge the competitions. He further added that a challenge they faced was differentiating this year’s performances for competitions from their previous ones, as judges deducted points for repetition.

When asked about DC’s recruitments this year, Karan said that the new recruits were ‘past his expectations’ and that he was ‘excited to see how they performed in Oasis’. He elaborated that the new juniors’ enthusiasm made this the first year that DC had also performed during BOSM.

He revealed that DC had already completed choreographing the performance, and with just one more week to prepare, they were practising in the Main Auditorium in addition to costume practice sessions at SAC.

Having been the in-charge during his 2-2 and 3-1, Karan stated that this had been his first time actually ‘being a part of the club’ and not just dancing. ‘Now, I have to overlook four performances, two events, and everything else that comes with the club. And that is exciting. It makes me nervous because there’s a lot of things going on.[sic]’ He also spoke about how, being in his fourth year, this would be one of the last times he would be dancing, and how he was grateful for the opportunity to be the Oasis Coordinator of DC.

He mentioned that the StuCCA had cooperated with DC, despite their heavier workload this year, and that their timeline for meets had ‘always fallen in place’. He added that the StuCCA helped them meet any missed deadlines as well.

On a parting note, Karan encouraged everyone to attend DC’s shows, as a lot of effort had been put into the performances. He also stated that he could guarantee ‘at least one trophy’, and urged BITSians to support DC in their competitions.
