As Oasis ’26 inches closer, Soham Bharadiya, Oasis Coordinator of BITS Embryo, sat down with the Oasis English Press for a quick chat regarding the club’s plans for this edition of the fest.
Soham explained that Embryo—an institutional body established in 2006—was mainly responsible for organising talks, panels and inviting the chief guests for BOSM and Oasis. He further added that aside from inviting the inaugural panel and pitching live events, Embryo was also responsible for aiding FMac by inviting judges for their events this year.
He explained that Embryo picked out prominent industry leaders and upcoming individuals in the film industry whose work aligned with the respective events and Oasis. They made use of their database of said leaders and shortlisted people, followed by sending out emails and calling them in order to pitch Oasis to them. They then ran their process until the candidates for chief guest and judges to various events were finalised.
Soham shared that Emryo started outreach for the fest in June, revealing that a lot of these calls went unanswered, with nearly 50 failed attempts for every one that goes through. On the challenges faced, Soham quipped that the biggest challenge of leading the club had been treating the juniors. On a more serious note, he added that maintaining the aforementioned database and updating it regularly with the latest information was a notable challenge followed by the club.
He remarked that his experience as coordinator had been joyous yet demanding, as he had to juggle academics, club work, and, being a self-proclaimed gym enthusiast, his workouts too. Looking back, he concluded that he learnt a lot of things, met new people and had fun with juniors. Complimenting his juniors, he explained that he did not need to force them and that they were very mature in terms of completing assigned work on time. This was followed by his reflection that their motivation always came with a side of treats.
