Ragamalika is a club that concerns itself exclusively with Indian classical music and dance. Their aim, apart from providing a setting for the classical musicians that find their way into BITS Pilani, is to popularise classical art forms in the campus. To that end, they are organising three events for Oasis ’17. Tania Nandi, the coordinator, is responsible for steering the club through the obstacles it faces and she does so with boundless energy. A brief interview with her illuminated many finer aspects of the club’s plans for the fest.

For the first time ever in history, BITS Pilani will have a dance based prof show. Priya Murle, professional Bharatanatyam dancer of international acclaim, will be performing with her troupe. She has won several prestigious awards and is a dancer of the highest calibre. All of the music and dance will be original creations of Priya Murle and her team. Ragamalika’s reputation with prof shows is quite solid, and Tania anticipates that this prof show will be as good as its purely musical predecessors, if not better. “All the shows so far have been centered around music, but let’s hope we have a good response from the BITSian crowd for this event too” she said.

Ragamalika also conducts two events in Oasis – Tandav and Swaranjali, dance and music competitions respectively. Tania was concerned about the lukewarm response to these events last year, but was confident about this year’s prospects.

Tania described the work of a coordinator as consuming yet satisfying. From having to call artists months in advance, to managing the events and publicity, and coordinating the work of the club members, there is a lot of work that must be done. She hoped to see a successful Oasis this year.
