DLE – Nishit Bohra

Nishit Bohra, the coordinator of the Department of Live Events (DLE) sat down with the BOSM English Press to discuss their events and the upcoming sports fest. For this year’s edition of BOSM, DLE will be hosting two events—EDM Nite and Adventure Zone. The latter consists of five fun sport events in which one can register on-spot and participate with their friends. As for EDM Nite, DLE will be conducting their professional show in South Park instead of the Main Auditorium. Alongside mess and ANC signings, this year, WhatsApp signings were also conducted for EDM Nite.

With BOSM returning after a hiatus of three years, DLE found itself in uncharted waters. ‘The junior most batch is not showing up on campus before BOSM, so we have a smaller workforce than usual,’ explained Nishit. Consequently, DLE had to omit hosting a standup comedy show which was otherwise conducted in BOSM 2019. Hosting the professional show in South Park further increased the workload due to a tedious production process. ‘Since we have to set up the whole stage, SFX, and lights from scratch, a lot of workforce needs to be allocated to that,’ he added. When asked about the process behind finalising acts for the professional shows, Nishit said that DLE was in contact with several ‘artist agencies’ and depending on the budget allocated and current popularity, artists were pitched to the CoSSAc. The acts are finalised only after long discussions. ‘This year, we also have a partner for the fest, not just a sponsor, so that is a great thing we accomplished.’ said Nishit.

When asked about crowd management issues during one of the shows in APOGEE 2022, Nishit claimed that steps were being taken to prevent such mishaps from happening again. According to him, there were issues scanning the tickets because DLE received the QR codes late from the bodies that cover the technological part of the fest. ‘So we’re bugging the tech teams to come up with the applications soon so that we will not face the same issue this time,’ he explained.

When asked about his experience as the coordinator of DLE so far, Nishit replied that it had been remarkable. He said that while his work was highly time consuming, being responsible for an event at this scale was incredibly gratifying. Working as a coordinator introduced him to a major part of the student workforce and the CoSSAc, who had been highly helpful throughout the fest preparation. ‘I got to meet a lot of talented people in CoSSAc and other bodies, which are a key part of hosting the fest.’ They have also been really helpful to us throughout,’ he concluded.
