In anticipation of the upcoming Oasis, Supreeth MK, the StuCCAn of the Department of Reception and Accommodation (RecNAcc) sat down with the Oasis English Press to share some insights into RecNAcc’s preparations for the fest.
Supreeth explained that RecNAcc is entrusted wiith the task of managing accommodations for a diverse range of people, including participants, judges, and artists. He added that they are also responsible for overseeing the room and inventory requirements of various clubs and departments. This also includes setting up stalls and ensuring that the clubs and departments have all they require for the smooth conduction of their events.
One of the department’s primary goals for Oasis ‘23, according to Supreeth, is to restore the attendance in Oasis to its pre-COVID numbers. He explained that the turnout during the previous Oasis was reduced due to scheduling conflicts with CAT, the entrance examination for the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). This in turn allowed for all participants to be accommodated on campus. However, this time, the StuCCA anticipates a far greater influx, necessitating off-campus arrangements for accommodation as well. He highlighted that various steps were being taken to cater to the same, including securing bookings at various locations off-campus.
Supreeth then proceeded to explain the challenges that came with accommodating outstation participants in this edition of Oasis. He stated that not only is there a greater influx of outstation attendees, but also, multiple on-campus accommodation options like the Alumni Home and a section of VFast were unavailable for usage due to the Pharmacy conference running parallelly to the fest.
When asked about his role in RecNAcc, Supreeth said that he found immense satisfaction in being a core part of the fest. He appreciated the responsibility that comes with overseeing a significant portion of the event and said that he found fulfillment in seeing the positive impact of his team’s work.
Supreeth expressed his optimism in stating that this Oasis will surpass the previous one, and concluded by encouraging all BITSians to stay for Oasis and immerse themselves in the fest.
