With the much-anticipated BOSM 2025 around the corner, the BOSM English Press sat down with Joshua Eapen, the Captain of the Boys’ lawn tennis team, to delve into their preparations for the upcoming fest.
Recruitments from the 25 batch had taken place at the start of August, with two new members being recruited based on their potential to grow as players, Joshua said. Speaking of the tennis team’s training regime, Joshua mentioned how the team had worked particularly hard to improve their stamina. He explained that one of the major setbacks the previous year had been the members’ lack of stamina. To address this, the team had worked with the coach to make training sessions more intensive, focusing on building endurance. Training had gone on daily for an hour and a half to two hours at Gym Grounds. The sessions had begun with a warm-up, followed by basic rallies, drills or matches, and had concluded with cool-down exercises. During the week leading up to BOSM, the training regimen had shifted, with playing matches being the primary focus, Joshua added.
Joshua explained that the team would be participating only in the team event in this edition of BOSM, which included three sub-events: singles, doubles, and a reverse singles match—played only in the event of a tie after the first two matches to determine the winner.
Reflecting on BOSM 2024, Joshua spoke about how the team had faced one of the toughest competitions against Sri Venkateswara College (Delhi University) and Manipal Institute of Technology, Jaipur. Despite the tough competition, the team had managed to secure the bronze medal.
Joshua explained how the team had faced significantly fewer challenges this year compared to the previous year. He commented that the team had received their equipment on time from the sports staff and had faced no problems in the extension of Gym Grounds timings. He stated that his experience interacting with CoSSAc had been smooth and acknowledged that they had been ‘very prompt’ and approachable regarding issues that arose. On a parting note, Joshua highlighted the high enthusiasm among students in tennis, particularly evident from the strong turnout during the recruitment process.
