Manufacturing Engineering Assoc (AB)

The APOGEE English Press (AEP) met with Siddharth Gupta, the coordinator of the Manufacturing Association (MNA), who took some time off his busy schedule to discuss their preparation for the fest.

Siddharth mentioned that the association will be organising three events this APOGEE—Reverse Engineering, Supply Chain Management, and a speaker event. The latter will be followed by a question–and–answer (QnA) session, wherein they have invited the Assistant Vice President of Maruti Suzuki, who will be sharing insights from their extensive experience on good manufacturing practices.

Reverse Engineering is one of their kernel events, where participants will have to disassemble an Internal Combustion Engine (IC Engine), build a CAD model for it, and then reassemble the engine. The club will be holding a workshop where they have also invited an industry professional to demonstrate the disassembly and reassembly of these engines. The event targets participants interested in Fusion 360, a skill that professionals in core manufacturing engineering fields require. Participants will be competing in teams of five for a prize pool of Rs. 25,000.

‘Supply chain management, as a career path, has been gaining a lot of traction off late, and MNA is holding the only event relevant to it for APOGEE’, shared Siddharth. Participants will be competing in teams of four to design an actual supply chain within an hour.

MNA is currently working on the procurement and ensuring good working conditions of the IC Engines from the ICE Lab behind the old workshop to prevent participants from bearing any time loss during the competition by receiving a faulty engine. ‘We do not have any budgeting issues when it comes to their procurement, but we do have to maintain good relations with Dr Sangwan—the head of the Central Workshop—as he approves the usage of these engines’.

The club is also working on creating the problem-set for the supply chain event. Additionally, the club also manages all communication with the guests, including their accommodation and their presentations.

‘After MNA’s successful industrial visit in January, many people have gotten to know about our association, which is why we expect a surge in participation in all our events, and I think all our events would give a very good hands-on experience for someone who is looking into getting into core-jobs’, explained Siddharth. He described his experience as a coordinator to be “rewarding” and is grateful to the association for presenting him with an opportunity to conduct such large-scale events.
