The Renewable Energy Club was formulated in the days of yore mainly to discuss and look into issues that concern renewable energy sources, placing special emphasis on the carbon footprint of the college. This APOGEE, REC is headed by Anand Morlawar.
This APOGEE, REC hosts the event ‘Goodbye Earth’, an event which will have three rounds, and the setting of which is a dystopian world of 2050. Morlawar tells us that the premise of the event is that the Earth has been destroyed. In Round 1, particpating teams of 3-5 persons each will be required to write down an elaborative paragraph that outlays all necessary conditions and requirments needed in the new planet. Specific details such as the climate and terrain are expected from the teams. Also, individuals of certain professions have to be selected specifically among the given pool to take them to inhabit the new planet to validate absolute efficacy of human resources. This will be followed by Round 2, where a specific terrain will be allocated to each team. Effective utilization of the talents and abilities of the persons selected by the teams in the round 1 will be tested here. Ownership of fictitious companies will be given wherein the task of the companies would be to invest in renewable energy sources.
The last round will involve participants creating a vertical-axis wind turbine so that wind from all directions can be effectively utilized. Expecting a grander participation of 200 persons as compared to last year’s 130, Anand believes that this APOGEE will be better and grander as compared to its predecessor.
