With APOGEE right around the corner, the APOGEE English Press (AEP) sat down with the Coordinator of the Film Making Club (FMaC), Soham Deshpande, to know more about the club’s contributions to the fest.
Soham said that his primary responsibility was to make the audience familiar with cinema and that the events served as a way to teach them about the different aspects of filmmaking. He went on to talk about their events for this year’s APOGEE – Uncharted, Metamorphosis accompanied by a movie screening. He explained that their flagship event, Uncharted, was an escape room which would encourage cinephiles to put their detective hats on. Teams could participate in groups of three to five and have the option to escape a Hollywood or Bollywood-themed room. Moreover, Uncharted’s design would also incorporate this edition of APOGEE’s theme, Under Steel Skies
Metamorphosis, Soham explained, would be a short filmmaking competition wherein the participants would have full creative freedom to choose the genre of their films and incorporate any cinematic style in their pieces. He added that the event would be a great way to show off their artistic flair. The winners could expect hefty crash prizes, which have been substantially increased this year.
Soham further stated that they were in the process of getting a renowned industry figure as the Chief Guest for the movie screening and promised that the attendees would have a fun, interactive session after the screening, during which they could share insights or ask questions about filmmaking.
Beyond the events organised, he mentioned that FMaC’s primary task was to document all kernel events and prof shows during APOGEE, which would later be compiled into the aftermovie. Regarding this, Soham said that making the aftermovie was a big responsibility, ‘as it is the only thing that would keep the fest alive.’ He explained that this final cut would also showcase how grand the fest was, thereby attracting new sponsors and other colleges.
On a parting note, Soham expressed his passion for filmmaking and his club. He hoped the fest would go well and that everyone would get to learn something new from it.
