Mathematics Association

As Oasis ’26 drew closer, the Oasis English Press (OEP) sat down with Lavya Chhabra, the sleep-deprived Oasis Coordinator of the Mathematics Association, at 3:00 AM, during their flagship event, Sherlock vs Moriarty (SvM).

He described the association as a community where mathematics enthusiasts had fun organising and participating in events, and learning and solving problems together. He enthusiastically added that the association was ‘an extremely active bunch of geeks nerding out’.

Lavya said the Mathematics Association would conduct three events during this fest. SvM, usually a treasure hunt, had been retconned to a murder mystery this year, where teams chased clues across the campus, leading them through the thrill of solving a murder. He added that he was inspired by Christopher Nolan, but regrettably noted that the logistics did not permit him to use a live corpse for the event. They would also conduct Equilibrium, a game-theoretic event, and an Escape Room in collaboration with the Film Making Club (FMaC) during Oasis.

Lavya felt that his experience as a Coordinator was a ‘load of fun’. He also remarked that the juniors were the craziest people he had met, but admitted that treating them after every meet had almost bankrupted him. (An anonymous correspondent of the OEP has indicated that Lavya has unsuccessfully attempted to avoid treating his juniors on multiple occasions).

On a parting note, he asked readers to enjoy the fest and urged them to attend the events conducted by the association.
